Before it counts

Server validation
Impossible speeds, location jumps and other signs of manipulation can invalidate a run.

The run ends. The contest does not.

What is a territory conquest running game?
It is a game where the real map of your city is the board. In Flowtr, when your run closes a loop, the area inside becomes yours on a shared map. Other players can take part of it and you can win it back.
How is Flowtr different from Strava?
Strava records activities and is a social network for athletes. Flowtr is a game: every closed loop becomes territory on a shared map, contested with other players and ranked by area, territories and distance. You can import runs as GPX (for example, exported from Strava) into your history, but only activities recorded in Flowtr claim territory.
Does Flowtr work outside Lisbon?
Yes. The map is worldwide: you can claim territory in any city, and rankings can be viewed by world, country or city. Flowtr was made in Lisbon, and the Sentinels hold zones in Lisbon.
Can I play with friends, walking or cycling?
Yes. You can follow friends, see a friends ranking and create duels or group challenges with up to 50 people. The mode is detected from your average speed: running counts 100% of the area in the global ranking, walking 60% and cycling 50%.
Do I need to keep the screen on during a run?
No. Once you start a run, Flowtr keeps recording with the screen locked. On Android, a notification is shown while GPS is active. Ending the run also ends that tracking.
Is my route public?
The shared map shows claimed territories, your nickname, colour and profile picture. Other players do not see the full route. A public run video is created only when you choose to share it, and shared images and videos hide the first and last 200 m of the route.
Who are the Sentinels?
They are virtual rivals created by Flowtr, not real people. They hold territory and may take part of yours, so there is a contest even before other players run near you. In the app they are always marked as Sentinel · virtual rival.
Do I need to close a loop?
Yes, to claim territory the run must form a valid area. The app helps you see when you can close it and checks the result before saving.
Is Flowtr free?
Yes. Flowtr is free and has no ads. If that changes, we will first explain what changes and what remains free.
